An Easy Top Ten List – The Do’s and Don’ts of Getting Fit
There are many different lists and experts that will volunteer tons of their advice when it comes to getting into shape and trying to maintain a routine. Some of the most basic pieces of advice are usually glossed over or completely forgotten, such as trying not to be so hard on yourself when you don’t notice your progress or actively weighing yourself everyday and being discouraged at little to no changes.
Instead of allowing the stress of implementing a fitness and health routine take all the joy out of it, try to focus on the longer term goals and regroup when you need to. There is nothing wrong with taking a moment to analyze what is working to making your plan work, and what could be holding you back from your goals. There’s also the idea that once a goal has been reached, there’s nothing more to really pursue. That could not be further from the truth! Goals should be ever evolving and can even branch off to other ‘sub goals’. This keeps motivation high and the experience of pursuing them fun.
Lastly, but most importantly, comparing oneself to another person is one tip that needs to be emphasized. It’s simply unfair to do so because people come from and have so many various experiences and paths that led them to where they are – it’s nearly impossible to ever feel as adequate. Looking at one’s own achievements is key. Taking a look back at your own history will give you better encouragement to keep in hot pursuit of your goals. How often is it that we tell ourselves “I never imagined I could do that before”, yet you crushed that goal no problem? We all have different stories to tell – so quit comparing and go write your own!
