The weather is warming up! Finally it seems like warmer temperatures are getting a bit more consistent. And there are a whole host of reasons why people need to get outside more often. It’s not just good for the body, it’s also good for the soul.

Research has shown that spending some time in the great outdoors like taking a leisurely walk or a bike ride on a paved trail, picnic in a park, or even taking your pup for some fun at a dog park can boost your mood and can actually help improve your overall health! Get Your Dose of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is pretty crucial to our bodies. Primarily we get it through various foods like milk, fish, and eggs – as well as fortified cereals. However, we also derive vitamin D from exposure to sunlight.

If you spend too much time indoors, you may not be getting enough sun exposure which can lead to vitamin D deficiency in otherwise healthy people. Another factor is that if you have darker skin, you might be surprised to learn that you may be deficient in vitamin D because of it!

Spending at least 30 minutes outside in sunlight (using some spf sunscreen of course to protect your skin) can absolutely help! However, you should also talk to your doctor if you need additional help meeting your requirements with supplements.

Plan a game of softball, volleyball, soccer, or even just hitting the trails for a hike. These activities aren’t only fun but will get your moving while giving you a break from being cooped up in the gym.
